Essential Confusion is about the painter’s lifelong desire to become a musician, specifically, the ability to play the piano, but his inability to master it. At first, he tried a passionate approach to no avail. He then attempted a very disciplined and structured approach, depicted by the chess board, also without success. Despite this, however, his love of the art of music has never waned.
